Values in Motion: Art, Dialogue, and Kalaripayattu at Sevagram
At Sewagram, over 100 young people from across the country came together for a transformative three-day journey of self-discovery, physical embodiment, and collective reflection. Anchored in the practices of Kalarippayattu led by Jaya and theatre-based dialogue on values, the gathering unfolded through a series of embodied and artistic explorations. Our team facilitated deeply interactive sessions using nature—leaves, flowers, and paint—as mediums for emotional expression. Participants connected with one another through collaborative poetry, intuitive drawings, and shared reflection.
Gandhi Across Time: Mural of Dialogue and Reflection
The program culminated in the creation of a vibrant mural on values, inspired by an imagined dialogue between two Gandhis—separated by time, yet united in purpose. As the Gandhis discussed their decisions, ideals, and inner conflicts, participants interpreted these ideas visually, forming two distinct but interlinked teams painted on the wall. A figure of Gandhi walking inward anchored the mural, symbolizing reflection and return. On one side, the poem “I Will Return” was written, echoing the spirit of revisiting one's values and commitments—an offering of hope and continuity.
Pause, Reflect, Realign
In the midst of this energetic youth exchange, our Haan Hum core team held extended strategy meetings—reflecting on the rapid expansion of our work, the values we carry forward, and how to align our facilitation styles in this new phase. With guidance from our mentor Jaya, we addressed key questions, re-evaluated what truly anchors us, and renewed our commitment to working in deep integrity and dialogue. The gathering at Sevagram was not only a space of youth engagement, but also a much-needed moment of collective realignment and purpose for our growing movement.
